Cambridge-based designer and landscaper Luke Eason brings over 20 years of hands-on experience to Department of Landscaping.

A third-generation landscaper, Luke grew up around the trade and began his own career on the tools in 2005. His early work focused heavily on hardscaping, including custom pool builds, before shifting toward planting and design. That combination of practical know-how and creative vision now underpins all of his work.

His projects range from stonework in Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens to the design of a 10-hectare native gully restoration in Takapoto Estate  as well as private gardens across Waikato, Melbourne and the Bay of Plenty.

Luke’s approach is shaped by New Zealand’s wild landscapes. He focuses on native planting and thoughtful construction, aiming to create outdoor spaces that feel natural and built to last. His work blends structure with softness, always looking to connect a garden back to its setting and allow it to grow richer over time.
